The 15th President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Dr. Raphael Bostic, shares his thoughts on taking career risks and finding a restaurant that treats you like family. Best advice Dr. Bostic has ever received? “Work with the willing.” Read on:

How do you decide what to delegate versus what to handle yourself?

One of the things I’ve learned in my career is that I’m a control freak! I have found that when I step back, my team usually steps up to the to the plate and hits a home run. So, I try to delegate as much as I can and make sure that only the most difficult issues reach my desk.

What was the biggest risk you’ve taken in your career?

The biggest risk of my career was the leap from being a research economist at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in D.C. to becoming a professor at University of Southern California in Los Angeles. I knew I was really good at my job at the Board in D.C., but looking at the opportunity, I saw a chance to broaden my horizons and build a whole new set of skills. It turned out quite well.

Favorite Atlanta restaurant?

My favorite Atlanta restaurant is a little neighborhood spot called Kindred. It was the first restaurant we went to when we moved here and the warm welcome we received has never changed. The same hostess who greeted us is still there and she treats us like family. It’s a wonderful place with great food and even better hospitality.
