Atlanta is a passionate sports city.
Atlanta continues to solidify its reputation as a premier destination for top-tier sporting events. In 2028, Mercedes-Benz Stadium will host Super Bowl LXII, marking the city’s fourth time hosting the championship since 1994. Constructed only seven years ago, the stadium has earned acclaim as one of the nation’s most technologically advanced venues, drawing both national and international audiences. This marquee event joins a slew of other major competitions set to unfold over the next six years:
In the 2024 legislative session, the Metro Atlanta Chamber and its partners successfully advocated for and secured nearly $30M in state funding to help host major sporting events. Combined with private contributions and funding from the City of Atlanta, this funding will ensure the events are safe, secure, and impactful, boosting Atlanta’s and Georgia’s economy and reputation around the world.
Atlanta’s infrastructure also plays a significant role in its success in landing major sporting events. The world’s busiest airport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, is just a short and convenient 15-minute ride to Downtown Atlanta, making sports events easily accessible to fans worldwide. Selection committees commend the city for its growing and walkable downtown, solid base of hotels, and sought-after restaurants.
Atlanta does big well. It’s the city that can make things happen. As we head into 2025 and beyond, Atlanta’s residents and sports fans will experience a world-class destination for sporting events.
