Katie Saez, Regional President at Truist, walks us through her daily routine, what it means to build a great team, and what advice she gives new leaders. Read on:

What is your daily process like?

My daily process starts the night before, or sometimes even the weekend before. I spend time going through my calendar and looking at what the week ahead looks like. It’s important for me to be prepared. I don’t like to rush, so if I can protect time to make sure I’m ready, I can show up fully and be truly engaged in meetings and with the people I’m connecting with.

What advice would you give to new leaders?

My advice to new leaders is to be intentional about the team they’re building. Most days, we spend more time at work than we do with our families, so it’s important to me to have a team of people who genuinely like each other. When we like each other, we build trust. When you have that level of trust, your team will be better in the long run.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Someone once told me that I need to build my own personal board of advisors. What this really means is having a close group of both personal and professional friends and confidants whom you can turn to for advice and counsel.

I like to analyze and process information before making decisions, and I lean on my board of advisors all the time. We talk through things—what I’m still thinking, how to consider different perspectives, and sometimes even role-play scenarios.
