Atlanta Falcons Ring of Honor quarterback and CBS Sports Analyst Matt Ryan, shares his thoughts on what makes a good leader. Read on:

How do you develop grit?

You develop grit by failing. If you fall short, you figure out why it happened, what needs to change, and how you can be better moving forward. Don’t shy away from the moment. You need to take chances — and the more you do that, the more you develop grit.

What are the characteristics of a good leader?

• Know where you’re going with a clear vision of what you want to accomplish

• Know who is with you and what they need

• Have a set of principles and beliefs that you’re committed to, while being flexible in how you apply them

How do you encourage young people to take risks?

When it comes to taking a risk, I think of all the great players I was around during my career. The one common trait among them was incredible self-belief. They were the first to believe they would be successful, before anyone else did.

If you’re going for it, believe you can do it. When you have that belief, you’ll do whatever it takes to make it work. Shoot your shot.
